Just when I thought I had enough of writing about our “world class” education, here comes the joke of the year. Since yesterday, the cyberworld has been loaded with the word “listen”. It was such an entertaining video but such a tragic incident for our universities. When this video first appeared in my Facebook page yesterday, I was not totally shocked with what they were doing to the students but what amused me was the way the panelist responded. The conversation really shows who had brains and who was shooting all over the place without any knowledge, even though she claim she is a degree holder! What surprises me even further is the fact that most of the students who were listening probably got no clue of what was happening. They seem to be clapping their hands all over the place!! What type of university students are we producing? Well, I think I had talked about this so many times before. Our universities and the education system as a whole, has gone to the dogs !
These type of programs happens in all universities. It is a form of brainwashing forums aka BTN type “boot camps”. Anyone who cares to read about Hitler and the Nazis will find a lot of similarities. For those who do not know who Hitler was, please go and read. Our history books are good for nothing nowadays. Current generation do not even know anything about world history and who is Gandhi, Napoleon, Abraham Lincoln, Stalin etc etc. That’s how well our education system has “evolved”!
Following the video, there were some interesting parodies that were made within one day. I must say, Malaysians are good at this for sure. Namewee came up with this and another interesting dance remix here is a good watch. It is a national shame! The video is now being viewed by the whole world and it clearly shows what is happening in our universities. Universities are supposed to develop critical thinking, employable, knowledgeable graduates. Instead, we are producing “katak bawah tempurung” graduates who get a shock of their life when they enter working life. In my New Year 2013 post, I mentioned what is being distributed among Standard 2 students. So, together with this new video above, I am sure anyone can guess what kind of education system we are having. Whatever blueprint that our Education Minister wants to introduce will not change anything as long as the education system is politicised. Education should be left with the academics and politicians should never get involved. Unfortunately the “brain-washed” generations are now “brain-washing” the current generations. I admire the courage and “guts” that this girl Bawani had for coming up and giving her view. I understand that she is a 2nd year law student.
This would become one of the best “comical” video for this year. What an introduction to year 2013! I still remember the “correct, correct, correct” video before the 2008 General Election. For 2013 General Election, we have “listen, listen, listen” video………………… Lastly, the post below was taken from Facebook. Laughter is the best Medicine………………
I think she is suffering from some kind of disorder which requires the attention of a Phychiatrist.A domineering personality which needs a personality adjustment program
Nah, she is just being a d1ck.
Mayb an attitude adjustment program is required ! What do you guys think?
Narcissistic Personality Disorder – definitely.
She’s seriously annoying
I couldn’t agree with you more. You nailed it!
Sir,
I am not sure if many UUM students are ashamed of their model lecturer Ms listen listen listen Sharifah. They seem to clap clap clap for their lecturer. The other panelist? Innocent bystanders?
I am sad that we are producing these type of quality education.
It’s rather unfortunate that the undergraduates did what they did.Its the herd mentality syndrome.every single students are scared stiff. They r worried of the repercussions of not doing anything while the drama unfolds before their eyes. Its like each and every students was conditioned to believed that its not alright to question your teachers or lecturers for fear of losing out on their grades while in college
the issue is
both of them need to talk nicely, its okay to have different point of view but dont be rude in giving out opinion
this is not truly reflection of our education system
there are a lot of better exmple
I salute Bawani’s courage to speak out. Hope she manages to finish her degreee without any interruption from UUM management.
She need to improve communication skill
Both of them did mistake in that situation
“All the students in this hall are happy with what the government does for them. You don’t agree, you can leave.”
OK.
Why do these arrogant, condescending authoritarians always assume that we have no better options? The world is now a rather small place. Embrace this! We are all children of the world and citizens of the global village.
Agreed. But unfortunately, some are not in a position to leave for greener pastures to further their education elsewhere. I suspect almost all the non-Bumis in public universities are there because they can’t afford to be anywhere else. Am happy to have that perception corrected.
Dear Dr.Pagalavan,
I am an international(Indian) student who has been accepted into the Newcastle Malaysia MBBS program. I have to decide between this and going to India for MBBS. What do you suggest?
It depends on where you want to work. Newcastle Malaysia is not recognized elsewhere, even in UK or India. In Malaysia, as a foreigner, you will not get internship post.
So, there is no country in the world where I could do an internship?
Unless you sit and pass the respective country emtrance exam with no guarantee you will get a job
Such boot camps are not just confined to universities but to government departments and it would appear the judiciary even. Read:

It has been going on for a long time since the days of Dr M. We have heard about it but it’s never so shocking until we get to see it for ourselves on youtube. These “turning over” sessions were common in communist China. Liu Shaoqi, Marshal Peng Dehuai and even Deng Xiaoping were some of their victims. They were conveniently branded counter revolutionaries before they were purged and sent to country side camps for re-education. The Khmer Rouge have those camps also and so did Stalin in the form of gulags. Adolf Hitler chose to exterminate them in the concentration camps.
After his revelations, the judge resigned.
Hello Doctor,
I m a Malaysian, holding MBBS degree from Mysore University.Unfortunately,my college is not recognised in Malaysia,so is my degree.I have tried the MQE in UKM twice.I m above 35 years old now.Is there any other non-clinical medical courses or jobs that can help me survive here.Since i m very much interested in ultrasound, can i be a Sonologist atleast. If ‘yes’, where can i do the courses in Malaysia and what is the scope of ultrasonologist in Malaysia.
will be very much delighted,if you can guide me here.
Thanking you,
The unfortunate.
Infact there is no scope for ultrasonologist in Malaysia. Most of these sonologist are trained MEdical Assisstants (MA) mainly for ECHO and Antenatal scans in government hospitals. The rest are done by Radiologist.
You can try applying for Master’s in basic medical sciences like anatomy, physiogy and biochemistry. You may get a job in the universities to teach
Dr Shurthi, one option is to get an Ultrasonography certification from Vision College.. and join BP Healthcare. You can thank me later.

Thank you for your guidance Dr., at least i could see some light on my dark dead end road.Is PG Diploma In Ultrasonology from Annamalai university, india of any use.I did it by Distance Education Course.I just need more of hands on in this, but it is so difficult to get a training centers here in Malaysia.Thank you for your time in this.
I didn’t know that you can do “distance learning” for ultrasonograhy. How is that possible? I don’t think it is of any use without any formal practical training
Just a quick question and seeking advice Dr. If my wife has served in singapore and ireland and completed her housemenship can she apply for full registration with MMC? i read in the clause that you may practice in the private sector but have to serve the public universities for 3 years is that possible?
Special Consideration For Malaysians working abroad:
In 1997, the Cabinet approved the proposal to give either partial or full exemption of compulsory service to Malaysian medical officers or specialists working abroad who wished to come back and serve the country. They were allowed to work in the private sector provided they also performed community service in government hospitals or clinics.
As an incentive to attract more Malaysian specialists abroad to come back and serve the country, the Honourable Health Minister agreed to revise the previous directive for compulsory service. Hence, in September 2004, the Cabinet agreed to the new revised compulsory service directives and it came into force immediately.
The current criteria imposed for exemption from compulsory service are as follows:
1. For doctors below 45 years:
a. Need to possess a rare subspecialty as determined by a Committee on Exemption of Compulsory Service; or
b. Need to serve in public or private universities or military hospitals for a continuous period of 3 years;
If she has completed her housemanship elsewhere, whether you will be exempted from doing the remaining postings depends on years of service. Most of the time, you will need to complete the remaining postings especially O&G.
You need to do 3 years compulsory service either in MOH hospitals or University hospitals. Only after that, you can go private.
If you have served overseas for more than 10 years, you can be exempted from compulsory service.
Thank you Dr. She is thinking of finishing her MRCP prior coming back to malaysia. I was just curious as to what is the difference in serving in university hospitals and moh hospitals? Rather then the teaching factor any other major difference? Thanks dr.
If she finishes MRCP, then she may not need to do horsemanship again. Other than teaching, the hierrachy is different, less busy compared to MOH hospitals but more politics. The salary scale is also slightly different.
