The Place that shall not be named…………….

Welcome to the world of wizardry!

There is a place where a lot of funny and hanky-panky things seem to be happening. In this place, the head doesn’t know what the tail is doing or better still, the head does not even know that the tail exist! This place supposes to provide services to the people of a country which is targeting to achieve high income nation by 2020 with first class mentality and infrastructure. Unfortunately, this place seems to be moving in the opposite direction.

In this place, the head has many deputies with bloated administrative staffs. The deputies do not seem to know what is happening. The minor departments under this place seem to be receiving the same circular, 2-3 times from different deputies and units. In this place, the management does not even know who are the staffs who are still working for them and who has left or resigned. The names of 2 staffs who left 8-10 years ago are still listed as staffs and occupying the post. Only now they are looking for this staff’s resignation letter! Recently, human resource unit of this place sent out a circular to all their “valuable” staffs regarding doing “out of office” hour work. Among the list of staffs that they sent out the circular to, 5 had already resigned, some more than a year ago! In this place, the head does not even know who the head of the units under him are. He still thinks “so and so” is still the head of a unit when she had actually left 6 months ago!

In this place, they can send out warning letters to their “valuable” staffs asking them to declare their assets urgently, if not actions can be taken, without even checking first whether the staff has done it or not. One of the “valuable” staff gave a nice dose of verbal bashing to one of the deputies and demanded an apology letter. The deputy did write an apology letter! Only in this place, you can have 3 different forms for 3 different leaves for their staffs, environmentally friendly place I guess!

This place provides “first class” service to their customers. Their customers are mainly naïve people who come to this place for cheap services. One of their services is to provide medications to solve the diseases that their clients are having. Unfortunately, in this place, wrong medications can be dispensed. Anti-inflammatory can be changed to anti-hypertensive with fatal doses. Despite a complaint by a voluntary “valuable” staff, no action or even reply is given. In this place, this is a minor incident that does not warrant any intervention or reply. Since the client did not die from the mischief, why bother!

In this place, the head can come up with his, own rules. He claims that his “valuable” staffs cannot do “out of office” hour work in more than 1 place. The circular from the higher authority does not say so. When one of the “valuable” staff complained to higher authority, suddenly everything changed. Now, everyone can fly………….

The higher authority has advertised in all mainstream newspaper in December 2009 welcoming staffs from the “dark side” to work for them on part-time basis, paid an allowance. However, in this place, according to the head, universities staffs attached to this place are not allowed to claim. It seems that the MOU signed, says that the university staffs are supposed to provide free services to the place and they are not considered as the “dark side”. I wonder at times whether the MOU says anything about the Head of Units/Head of the place being paid a monthly allowance by the universities attached to it, whether they do anything or not. To my knowledge, the MOU just says that the university need to pay certain amount of money to the higher authority but is silent on the allowances paid to the place’s heads. This place practices double standards, I guess?

In this place, laboratory services can be suspended due to lack of reagents. End of last year, a very important test known as ALT and AST was not available for almost 2 weeks. It seems this test is to assess the status of the liver. The “valuable” staff who treats diseases involving the liver was pulling his hair off (whatever is left on his head) to the extent of becoming bald! Then came the CRP, RF, CK and even T4, whatever it means. In this place, it seems urine bottles, blood containers and disposable gloves can be out of stock, sometimes up to a week. They did not even have enough A4 size papers early this year.

In this place, the canteen can be filthy dirty but yet the contract can be renewed due to certain “connections”. In this place, the generator can go “kaput” when there is no electricity. Recently, there is a possibility of half a million ringgit worth of medications may need to be disposed off due to high temperature in the storage refrigerator. Only in this place, an extension building, used for some procedure known as OGDS and Colonoscopy can separate itself from the main building, structurally. Only in this place, their “valuable” staff’s room air-conds keep breaking down and their staffs had to sweat it out for all their clients to smell their body odour.

What comes as a shock to everyone is when this place is actually going for accreditation for quality services. It seems there are many “underground” planning going on, to get the accreditation. Clients are going to be shifted from one building to another “invincible” building during the audit. It seems this “invincible” building is not on the map! At least that is what I heard. God bless the country where this place is situated if ever they get the accreditation. In this place, they have a name for the head : Mr. Simpson! I wonder whether this famous cartoon is shown in this place.

Suddenly, I woke up from my sleep and realized that I am not in Hogwarts or Pendora. I realized that I am back to my real world but everything that appeared in my nightmare seems to be so real and happening right in front of my eyes. But there is nothing much I can do, the clients will suffer in long-term without knowing the truth. I just hope it is really a bad dream. But I think it is time for me to say goodbye and transfer myself to the “dark side” forever………………
