I was just reading the latest MMA magazine which had an interview with the CEO of the so called “John Hopkins medical school”. Sorry, it is not John Hopkin Medical school but Perdana University!! It is a private sector initiative from Malaysia to build the medical school with a 600 bedded first private teaching hospital. What surprises me is that, the degree is from Perdana University and NOT JOhn Hopkins!! Only the word “ in collaboration with John Hopkins University” will be stated in your degree. WTH!
This basically means that this degree will not be recognised elsewhere. So, what’s the hoo hah about this so-called John Hopkins University setting up their branch here !! Our government is not interested in quality but only quantity and the private sector is using this weakness to the maximum coupled with our societies obsession in doing medicine. People still feel that medicine guarantees their future and good life with money etc. I would love to see the future where jobless doctors will become a reality and people who did not believe what I said will remember me later.
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone………………………….
Hi, what would you comment on the other degree offered by Perdana University which is in collaboration with Royal College of Surgeon in Ireland? Same case?
Yes, it is essentially a local program. Other than Ireland, it will not be recognised elsewhere. Even Ireland have not given its recognition
It’s not John Hopkins, but Johns Hopkins.
Thanks
Hi, I went to Perdana the other day as my school organised a trip there, and they gave us a campus tour. At the end of the tour I saw the five international certificate issued by RCSI & NUI with two additional physicians and surgeon certificates.
If its local program than why was there no mention of in collaboration with Perdana but only RCSI solely on their certificates?
Just want to check as their current scholarship look tempting ^.^
What certificate are you talking about? Are you talking about the honorary certificates that are issued by the college to Perdana?
The degree is the same as in Ireland but the training centre is not the same. Thus, your degree recognition depends on where you undergo your training. It is the same as Monash Malaysia. Degree is the same, recognised only in Malaysia and Australia but NO where else. BUT Monash Australia is recognised almost world wide. Same goes to NuMed. So, eventually it is a NEW local degree with no international recognition.
They say its the certificates we be getting after the completion of our 5 years RCSI program. Need to ask them again, thanks for the information.
yes, the degree is the same as in Ireland but the recognition is NOT the same.
But if the degree is the same from Ireland with no indication saying Malaysia, how does the recognition works?
My parents would also like to know if they would call RCSI in Ireland to check?
Thank you in advance.
When you apply for a job anywhere in this world, you need to provide not just your degree but also transcripts of your results and where you underwent your training.
So, the degree does not matter. What matters is where you underwent your training. Monash Malaysia also provides the same degree as Monash Australia but it is not recognised elsewhere(other than Australia), even in Singapore.
