Our country seems to be taking a 360 degree turn. First, when I saw our new Proton Waja replacement model on TV last week, I was laughing my head off. What replacement model? It is back to square one!
Proton started by using Mitsubishi cars way back in 1985, with Proton Saga and Proton Wira. Proton Wira was basically Mitsubishi Lancer in 1980s. After about 15 years, they came up with their own model, which was Proton Waja and subsequently Proton Gen 2, Savvy,Persona and finally Exora. In stead of moving forward, we are now back to the basic! Go back and rebadge Mitsubishi Lancer 2009 model! Way to go , man! If I am the CEO, I rather commit suicide then appearing on TV claiming it is another new model of Proton!
Then, in the worst and most useless Budget (2011) that I have ever listened, we have our beloved PM going back to mahatirism! Build big towers of erection to look great of yourself. Petronas twin tower is almost more than 50% vacant. Dayabumi is also half vacant and now, our PM wants to build another 100 storey tower worth RM 5b! Where is the logic!. No doubt it will stimulate the economy by producing jobs and companies but only for short term. It does not bring any long-term benefits. This is the reason why you don’t see many countries doing this type of development. Just look at Dubai and what happened during the economy downturn.
We seem to be moving backwards than forward. The below video is interesting
totaly agree with u.. the budget is useless….and i dont knw ha cme mainstream media and politician claiming it as “rakyat” frenly budget??!! unfortunately not many people aware of it oso, coz too busy with their own work…hope people in fb read this kind of post and blogs… thank you dr pagalavan.
thats very true dr, wonder if there is any brain working in proton?? after so many year of establishment, proton should be able to come up with very own idea.. now this is an embarassment..
and the tower is another… no comments.. haha..
The brains has left Malaysia long time ago!
I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time. I agree with you about that mega-tower. We don’t need it. However before you start bashing proton for introducing the inspira please read the links below till the end. The move actually makes sense, from a business point of view. Proton is moving to making money and good quality cars now unlike the past. I can personally attest to the quality with my own saga BLM which has not had any sort of malfunction at all for 9 months now clocking at 5000 km on the odometer.

Dear Zul,
I have read Paul Tan’s blog way before I made the comment. I do agree that it is a business deal to make money but where is your pride! Proton is 25 years old now and did come up with their own model 10 years ago. I also agree that they have improved on their quality as well, over the years.
But I still do not agree going back and claiming that you are producing a new model as a replacement model of WAJA (which is Proton’s own model) with a rebadged Lancer! Are you saying that you are unable to produce another new model even after more than 10 years of making WAJA? Only 26% of Inspira is locally made by Proton, does that make Inspira a new model of Proton or even a local car?. They should just admit that it is a rebadged Lancer.
Hello Dr Pagalavan, could i have a honest opinion from you?
what will be your sincere advise to me who wants to take up med? Im not a straight A student but my results are A’s and B’s.
My sincere advise: find something else. Do a field that is in demand 5 years from now, something that you like to do and not to do medicine for the reason I mentioned in my articles.
A lot of my friends who did other fields are happier, wealthier and leading a less stressfull life than me! I would not even advise my children to do medicine unless they have the passion and willing to go through all the frustration and stress.
Thank you sir for the advice. Can i ask u 1 last thing? what about pharmacist? is it a good career? cause i do like chem and biology.
Pharmacy is a good field but currently you have to do 4 years compulsory service as well with the government. Furthermore, in Malaysia pharmacist don’t play an important role in general. GPs are also allowed to dispense drugs and thus the role of pharmacist is not really that important! If you want to do pharmacy, please get an internationally recognised degree that will allow you to work in other countries where pharmacists play an important role as drug dispenser.
In government sector, pharmacist salary is only about RM 200 less than a doctor! But the job is less stressfull, more relaxed and less demanding.
Pagal
Other companies rebadge other companies cars as well. Peug rebaged Mits ASX, Aston martin compact car also a rebadge car.. They are waaaay older than proton. U hate it because u have to pay more for imported since proton exists rite? Plus it is GLC. N u r totally hate the government.
Other countries don’t increase imported car prices just to protect their own! You want to rebadge another car, go ahead but don’t say it is a new model and a replacement model for WAJA which is your own model! Other companies rebadge but they also have their own models, they don’t replace them with a rebadge model.
This got nothing to do with the government or being a GLC.
Thanks alot sir : )
