The month of May is going to be a busy month for me. I last blogged 5 days ago as I was a very busy man over the last 2 weeks and probably for the next 2 weeks as well. The whole of Tuesday I was at Columbia Asia Hospital Nusajaya to meet with all the “big shots” from KL including the South East Asia CEO of Columbia Asia. I had a chat with the CEO regarding few issues surrounding the opening of the hospital

Later the same night, we had a dinner with them at Grand Straits Garden restaurant from 7pm to 10pm. It was here that we realise we had singing doctors on board. Dr.Ezalee (anaesthetist), Dr.Teh (O&G) and Dr.Ding (MO) were good singers. They kept us entertained with their karaoke.

The next day (Wednesday 12/05/2010) was the MOH inspection for our operating license. The MOH team came from Putrajaya at around 10.30am. A new doctor who was just appointed to this post did the inspection. I must say that she was the most irritating and annoying doctor I have ever seen. Upon arrival she gave an hour lecture to the management team. The part that we felt very irritated is when she comes up with her own opinions and suggestions and request us to carry it out. As far as we are concerned, her job is to inspect whether we had complied with the Private Healthcare Facilities Act or not. Unfortunately she was going on and on commenting on things that she should not be doing……

Well, I had to leave at 1pm as I need to rush to my “voluntary” clinic at Hospital Sutanah Aminah at 2pm, after which I had to give a talk for the Year 3 Monash students at 5pm. I completed my day at 6pm and reached home at 7pm. The next day (Thursday), I had a bedside teaching at 10am to 12pm for final year students after which I left to Columbia Asia Hopital for a briefing from the GM and nurses day celebration at 3pm. The GM was very upset with what the learned doctor from MOH did, the day before. However, we still hope and convinced that we will get the operating license this month. I really hope we can start the hospital on 1st June 2010. I can’t wait anymore…………….

Lastly, on friday, I had a bedside teaching from 9-11am for year 3 students and then rushed off to Regency Hospital for my part-time private clinic from 2-5pm. I reached home around 6.15pm and switched on my TV to watch the most disappointing and embarrassing badminton game I have ever watched. We were just told by China to go and learn how to play badminton!

Today, I just had the time to open my laptop as I was away the whole morning, sending my son to Tamil class and marketing. Tomorrow, I got my sunday clinic at Regency Hospital from 9am to 1pm. Phew………, what a week.

It was a hectic weekend for me. After finishing my private clinic at Regency last Friday, I drove to KL for a CME meeting scheduled the next day. For the first time, I stayed at KL Hilton and I must say, it was excellent. The bathroom was almost half the size of the room!

I met my good friend George , a surgeon at Pantai Ampang at around 10.30pm and ended up talking at Brickfields Old Town White Coffee till 2 am!. Well,it was an interesting talk as he just joined private sector 4 months ago and he seem to be enjoying himself. We talked a lot about the future of medical services in this country as many of the good doctors are leaving to the private sector, leaving behind all the poorly trained doctors in the civil service. Trust me, the current generation of doctors being produced lately over the last 3-5 years are totally hopeless, arrogant and has no compassion for the patients. Probably only about 10% are still worth to be called doctors.

The next day, I attended my CME talk on “biologics in spondyloarthropathy” at KL Hilton. Left KL around 1pm. Upon reaching home, I noticed that my Avatar blue-ray disc that I ordered via amazon.com has arrived. Quite fast I must say, as they posted it on 22/04/2010 and reached my house on 30/04/2010! The set which had a blu-ray high-definition DVD and a standard definition DVD, cost only RM 94. It seems that you can get a blu-ray DVD directly from US at almost 50% cheaper! Watching Avatar in blu-ray was superb!

Suddenly I noticed my right knee was swollen with effusion. I did sustain an injury about 3 days earlier while walking in Jusco Bukit Indah, a slight twist of my knee. Even though the knee was swollen but there was no pain or redness. The effusion made my knee to be stiff and unable to flex fully. With that I still gave a public talk on “Gout” at IOI mall, Kulai at 5pm, Sunday(02/05/2010) during the Iskandar Investment roadshow, on behalf of Columbia Asia Hospital, Nusajaya.

This week is going to be another hectic week for me. Columbia Asia Hospital, Nusajaya will be opening to public next month(June 2010). Thus, we will be given IT training for the whole week as Columbia Asia is a paperless hospital and fully computerised. For those who do not know yet, I will be joining Columbia Asia Hospital Nusajaya as a fulltime resident Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist, while still maintaining my fractional teaching commitment with Monash University.

Since I got my Blu-ray player in Feb 2010, I have been doing some research. The first “so-called” blu-ray disc that I bought was a pirated one from the  “pirates” in KIP mart Tampoi. It was “Independence Day“, which caused me RM10. At first I saw it being clearer than the normal DVD but not exactly that much of a difference from an original DVD, on second thought.

So I decided to buy an original Blu-ray to test the real difference. I logged on to amazon.com and decided to buy “Transformers 2” bluray disc. As I have written before, you can get blu-ray disc at a cheaper price directly from US via amazon.com. I must say that the pictures were extremely clear and worth every cent watching it in blu-ray. Subsequently I bought “Lord of the Rings trilogy” in blu-ray, released on 6/04/2010, reached my house in 10 days. I must say the sceneries in these movies were SUPERB in high-definition……………. you must watch it in HD!

After watching all this original blu-ray disc, I decided to do some research on the pirated ones. I realised that the “so-called” blu-ray disc are not actually bluray disc. They were recorded from an original blu-ray onto a normal DVD!!!. If you don’t believe me, try playing it on a normal DVD player, it can be played where as an original blu-ray cannot be played in normal DVD player.

Furthermore, when you play the pirated blu-ray on a blu-ray player, it will appear as DVD-ROM and not BD-ROM as for original blu-ray. So don’t waste your money buying  pirated “so-called” blu-ray discs………..

Well, as I wrote in my earlier post, I said Goodbye to my Samsung i780 after almost 2 years. And yes, I bought my new Blackberry Bold 9700 from Celcom on 22nd March 2010.

I must say that so far I am totally satisfied with this phone. It is clear with high-resolution display, super fast and extremely easy to use and handle.

The battery life is excellent. I was playing around with it and downloading few softwares the whole day and the battery was still more than 50% at 10pm!! I just hope the battery life will remain like this forever……… because a new battery will cost about RM 250!!

The phone can pick up GPS satellites signals in less than 30 seconds whereas I need to wait almost 3-5 minutes in my earlier phone. The trackpad is so easy to use and you can adjust the sensitivity based on your needs.

The push email is excellent as well. You will receive the email faster than your desktop. Trust me! This was what I wanted for a long time.

Well guys, I am not sure about iPhone, but Blackberry Bold 2 is superb. If you are frequent web browser, than iPhone will be better for you.

I am still playing with it…………………….

I bought my Samsung i780 PDA phone in April 2008 during a PC fair in Johor Bahru. It worked well in the beginning before I changed my sim card to 3G . The battery life was excellent if you use the phone for just calling without 3G services. The only problem then, was the Windows Mobile 6.0 software that they were using. It hangs frequently especially if you are opening and closing multiple programs.

The 1st problem came about after I changed to 3G service. The battery life sucked! If before, it can last for more than a day, now it lasted for less than 24 hours. If you do overnight charging, it can last till you get home and will need charging again by 10pm. Mind you, this was on minimum usage of 2-3 calls, less than 5 SMS and email synchronization of every 2-4 hours. One of the problem with Windows Mobile software was that it need to synchronize with email service providers to download the messages. Thus, this sucks the battery.

The 2nd problem came after I upgraded the software to Windows Mobile 6.1. Even though it was more stable than the previous version(less hanging I mean) it sucked the battery even further. After upgrading, the battery only lasted for 6 hours. I had to buy a car charger to charge the battery when I am driving. I had to reduce the email synchronization to every 4 hours which defeats the purpose of buying this type of phone. If you use Bluetooth headset or WiFi, then the battery will kaput even faster!

Thus, after using it for almost 2 years, I decided to change my phone. Stay tuned for my next update of my latest phone…………….

After buying my Blu-ray DVD player, I was wondering where to get original blue-ray DVDs cheaper than at Speedy video. The only speedy video shop that sells original Blu-ray DVD is at Tebrau city. An original blue-ray will cost anything between RM 119 -159, almost double the price of original DVD.

I was seaching through the internet and suddenly came across an interesting suggestion. Buy the blue-ray DVD from Amazon.com!

It seems that there are people in KL who buys these DVDs from Amazon.com in bulk and sells it at cheaper price.

So, I decided to try out amazon.com website and guess what, it is definitely cheaper. I bought an original blue-ray of Transformers 2 and it cost me only RM100, including normal shipment. Initially, I thought it will take about a month for it to reach my house but surprisingly, it reached my doorstep within 2 weeks from the order date!

So if you want to buy original blue-ray at a cheaper price, go to www.amazon.com. I have already pre booked Avatar………………….

Again, I feel the government is still treating us like school kids.

UTUSAN MALAYSIA can go on writing racial and religious issues instigating the Malays to go against the non-malays but NO action will be taken against them, despite all the police reports. Unfortunately, for a simple intelligent commentary like this, a show cause letter is issued!!!

this is what I call clear-cut preferential treatment and discrimination!! Anything supporting UMNO’s stand is OK but not otherwise!

Show-cause letter for The Star KUALA LUMPUR:

The Home Ministry has issued a show-cause letter to The Star over the article “Persuasion, not compulsion”, that was published on Feb 19. The two-page letter yesterday, signed by ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam, gave the newspaper 14 days to reply as to why action should not be taken against it. The commentary, written by managing editor P. Gunasegaram in his column Question Time, was on the caning of three Muslim women for illicit sex. Several groups have since lodged police reports against him and the newspaper. The Star apologised on Wednesday, stating there was no intention to insult or offend any Muslim with the publication of the article.
