I came across this half page advert by a medical school in Malaysia, namely MAHSA in yesterday’s Star. I really don’t know what to say and I pity those students and parents who fall for this trap. Many still do not understand the medical field. It is clearly stated in this advert that the degree is recognized by MOHE but no mention of MMC/international recognition?
As far as I know, MAHSA has NOT been accredited by MMC yet and thus as of today, you can’t work in Malaysia as a doctor with MAHSA degree. Of course, MMC being a toothless tiger will definately accreditate MAHSA sooner or later before their first batch graduates. BUT the way they wrote this advert will definitely encourage parents to enroll into this “prestigious” untested medical school. They even mentioned the total fee involved(RM290K) and how much you can apply from PTPTN(RM150K)!! They don’t even list their academics on their website!
I have said this before that there is no point taking PTPTN loan of RM 150 000 just to do medicine. It will take your lifetime to repay back this loan if you work in government sector. Don’t forget you car loan and house loan that will come along the way!
I just hope the day will come when parents/students will realize that they have been taken for a ride by these private medical schools in Malaysia. They are just milking the cow before it dies! By the time the market is saturated in 5 years time, the would have made all the money. Remember, in all medical schools brochure, there is always this disclaimer : the college do not guarantee a place for housemanship. So you can’t blame the college if you do not get a job and your degree not recognised elsewhere!
