The Malaysian education system has been deteriorating since the mid-eighties when politicians started to get involved. Education should never be politicised. Unfortunately, our politicians decided to influence the minds of our youngsters for political gain.
Thus, our education system has become a laughing-stock of the world. Below I list some of my post on the state of our education system in the country.

haha, wonder how you got to my blog?
Doctor, may I seek some advise from you for my education purposes?
of course , you can. you can email me at pagal72@gmailcom
i will surely recommended your website to my friends… honest and daring
Wondered why our grads from Russia/ Ukraine are of poor quality. “Since the visit of the Malaysian governmental agents in 2002, they were able to obtain regular government contract students from Malaysia.. with the price of about $10,000 per student (compare it with a 500 Rouble tuition price for russians or the $2,000 per foreign student).
They therefore were pressured by regular visits of the Malaysian Embassy after a few deaths to better the Malaysian student’s situation. For that matter SAMAN, had FINALLY rennovated the dorms and told the teaching staff to be more ‘lenient’ to the students.. meaning.. ‘ just give them good grades and make them happy’. I got this peice from another forum.
If you come to Russia and study in Russian it is great. Their books are great, they are detailed and the teachers know this material well. My advise will be if you want to study in Russia study in Russian language, you will receive a truly world class education.
Hi, doctor… Im a Diploma In Pharmacy graduate… I applied for the post of Pharmacy Assistant at Columbia Hospital in Nusajaya but they told me that there’s no vacancy for the moment… It is not only in this hospital but all the hospitals in Johor Bahru… Tried applying online at other states but to no avail too… Is it possible for doctor to give me some suggestions on what to do next as Im still unemployed since the day of my graduation (23/04/2011)…
Thank you…
You can try some GP clinics. There are not many private hospitals in JB. Yes, if I am not mistaken, our hospital is full at the moment. You can try applying for Columbia Asia Setapak which will be opening in few months time.

hi Dr, im SONIA (I am currently a 2nd yr student of Bachelor of biomedical science UKM)…. Recently, I thought of changing wht im studying now to (Bachelor in nursing in UKM)..
whn is was still a kid I alws had a wish to help n treat the ppl in countries like palestin, Iraq n help unfortunate ppl .. ..dats is why, whn I was a kid , my ambition was I wnted to be doctr..but whn the times comes,I didn’t managed to get into a medical course n was given biomedical science instead ..
Is not tht I don’t like my course, i love subjects being thought… but in terms of job prospect , thr is no much job opportunities for us here in MALAYSIA…MANY of my senior’s ended up wit a job which is far frm wht thy learn,n our course don’t dealing with patients n most of the time, we r in labs..but i love dealing with patients!!!!
recently, thinking abt what im gg to work in the nxt 2 yrs,tht worries me to the max..i don’t think the degree tht im learning now is gg to giv me the satisfaction tht I want in life (thts is helping ppl in a medical means)..n to archieve it, NURSING can be a bettr choice..i juz realize this fact tht,if to compare, betwn a doc and a nurse, a nurse is more closer to the patient.. in know, I hv may hv realized it quite late, but still I think its not too late to change..i dnt wnt to regret for the rest of my whole life doing things tht I don’t like..
bcoz of this, I started searching information about nursing…. I found tht in the west countries, there have nursing as a second carrier thro :Accelerated BSN which is nursing programs for students who already have a Bachelor’s Degree or even a Master’s Degree in a field other than Nursing. These programs, which are often of shorter length than generic programs, are ideal for individuals who are looking to do something more meaningful with the education that they already have, or for those who have graduated college and found that their degree does not afford as many opportunities as they had hoped.. BUT WE DON’T HAVE THIS IN MALAYSIA GOVERMNT UNIVERSITIES.
So, Dr, wht do u think, wht should I do?? Is it wise for me to change wht im doing now, to NURSING(4yrs)…. Coz im alrdy in my 2nd year nw.. I badly need some advice..
plz, I hope tht I can hear frm u soon..tq..
The problem in Malaysia is that it does not matter whether you have degree in nursing or diploma in nursing, the job is the same and the salary will be the same. Unless you join as a tutor in nusing colleges but saying that, without experience you can’t teach. They do have higher grade for nurses with degree but the number of post are limited.
Your intention are nobel but you can procede to do nursing if you are interested. The only problem wil be getting a job later on.
Dear Sonia ,
Bless your kind soul ,but the reality is, there are many nurses by the hundreds ,mind you who are still jobless after a year .In the current hospital I work in there is a severe shortage of nurses , but being a well recognized hospital they do not wish to just hire nurses out of desperation .Further more they would only hire graduates from a very selected few colleges which are well established and has been for years .
They would not even bother to go through any applications from certain “barred” colleges they do not favor.
The nursing prospect overseas is good but in order to get there one will need at least 5 years of hospital experience. But how does one get the experience when no one wants to hire them ?
During my time there was a severe shortage and the hospitals were desperate to grab on to anyone they can get , now the situation is reversed ! and they can choose to be picky .
But if you feel that this is your calling then by all means go ahead but make sure you are from a reputable college or have a job secured for you before you decide to jump ship .
Dear Dr Pagavalan,
Im currently serving as 2nd year MO in gov hosp. Things have become very realistic after i got married and have kids. Need to work so hard n do lots of locums to support my kids. im feeling very insecure with the future of this med line as every tom dick n harry can become a doc (im a local gov uni grad)..feel so frustrated… I used to be as naive as tose med students out there at a point of time, but bare in mind that everything needs money. What do u think of dip in dermatology + dip in aesthetic medicine ? Hows the future prospects? But it seems tat many ppl is doin the same thing. Thanks for ur guidance Dr Pagavalan.
Yes, that is what I am saying all this while. Reality will only hit when you start to work.
Many GPs are doing this 2 diplomas for survival. Diploma in dermatology does not make you a dermatologist. Many do this to start cosmetic services in their clinic.
Thank you for ur kind reply Dr Pagavalan,
yea i fully understood that dip in dermatology is just for ” cari makan”…. u’l need MRCP/ masters in Int med in order to proceed with sub in dermatology.
Btw,I would like to ask ur opinion regarding emergency medicine. What do u think of Masters in Emergency Medicine..its quite a new field in Msia. What is your opinion regarding Emergency Medicine future prospect in PRIVATE hospitals????? But i have heard of one or two private hosps which i know of hiring emergency physicians to run the emergency dept.
With the current scenario where most of the ED at private hospitals are run by MOs, do u think all these MOs will gradually be replaced by emergency physicians in the near future???
Unfortunately in Msia, i wouldnt dare to say all, but MAJORITY of the ppl’s mindset regarding emergency dept is only a place where all the underperformed MO being dumped,or a place for u to “lepak” and relax, or just a temporary dept for u to “float” while awaiting for the vacancy of your desired dept.
It is somehow considered a dept which is inferior to other major disciplines.
Whatever the mistakes are, ED is always to be blamed.
So, Dr Paga, how would u advise me,as i have spent 1 year in ED,to jump or not to jump out from ED, if i would ask u to judge based on the future prospect of Emergency physician , both in private and gov hospitals set up.
Out of frustration, and with the lesser oppotunities to go for post grad studies, i think some docs, probably including me, will just open up a kopitiam, as the number of GP clinics are now more than kopitiam…..dont u agree with me???? haha…
Thank you very much and hope to hear from u soon.
Frankly speaking I don’t think there is much prospect for emergency specialist in private hospitals. They will just end up as glorified MO with MO salary. This is because the way private hospitals are run in this country. Consultants in private hospitals are self employed, meaning they are renting a clinic inside the hospital and seeing their patients. Basically a GP type clinic in a hospital. How does a emergency physician fit into this type of practise. Definately, the resident consultants will not allow these emergency physicians to do anything more then a bare minimal for patient who walks into the emergency department. I know 1 or 2 hospitals in KL who hired emergency physicians but most of these physicians are rotting away and some even left back to government service.
Yes, many may end up opening a kopitiam, BTW you can probably make more money and become more successfull. I know a few who did this and became millionares. There are also many GPs and Specialist who are venturing into food business as they know their clinic income is not sustainable in the future.
